Our Staff
Dr. Kristy McCamy, DVM and owner.

My name is Kristy McCamy and I am a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. I always had animals growing up, and participated in 4-H and FFA as a youngster. Our family also raised cattle, rabbits, and horses. I have had many pets over the years including a cockatiel, sulphur crested cockatoo, leopard gecko, bearded dragon, and many dogs and cats. During my undergraduate days in college I volunteered at a small animal veterinary hospital in Cotati, CA. Later I worked for Marine Word Africa U.S.A as an animal trainer, show announcer and sound engineer. Upon entering college I majored in Marine Biology because of my love for the ocean and marine mammals. I had the wonderful opportunity to work with the whales and dolphins at Marine World but found that the ocean animals were not the only ones I loved. I moved on to become a veterinary assistant at Marine World where I raised a lion cub, and assisted raising other babies in the nursery. The most fascinating part of my experience at Marine World was the medicine and surgery aspect. I was most fortunate to participate in a variety of surgical and medical cases, including a surgery on an Asian elephant’s foot. I had hoped to work some day as a veterinarian in a zoo, but soon discovered that, after an internship at the San Francisco Zoo and Toronto Zoo, I missed the dogs and cats too much.
My professional education experience is as follows: I graduated from Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine. During my education, I attended AQUAVET in Woods Hole Massachusetts for 2 consecutive years learning about aquatic animal medicine. After graduation I attended the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada and completed a one year internship in avian and exotic animal medicine and surgery. After my internship I worked at Montclair Animal Hospital in Oakland, Ca. and continued my companion animal interest with Dr. Jim Harris.
Wanting to be closer to my family, I moved to Sacramento and became an associate veterinarian at Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic. I spent 5 very educational and intense years at LBVC before moving to the Auburn area with my husband and animals. I accepted an associate veterinary position from Dr. Virgil Traynor here at Edgewood Veterinary Clinic in May 2005. Soon after being hired I was given the opportunity to purchase Edgewood Veterinary Clinic and continue the clinic’s exceptional medicine and surgery services.
Our team at Edgewood Veterinary Clinic provides a superior and very compassionate service, and I take great pride in being a part of it. I invite you to become a part of our family and I look forward to meeting you and your wonderful pets.
